Decoding the Flynas IPO - Business Segments and Revenue Composition

Flynas is more than an LCC, it operates a multi-vertical aviation platform with three distinct business lines:

Scheduled LCC Ops

The core business, comprising scheduled domestic and international flights under a low-cost model. The network spans over 70 destinations with a fleet of 60+ aircraft, primarily narrowbodies.

Hajj & Umrah Ops

Flynas operates seasonal charter and scheduled flights catering to pilgrims travelling to the holy cities in the Kingdom. This vertical allows the airline to monetise demand peaks during the Umrah and Hajj seasons.

Private Aviation (NasJet)

The genesis of today’s Flynas lies in NasJet, its private aviation arm. Originally part of National Air Services (NAS Holding), NasJet was established in 1999 in partnership with NetJets, offering charter services, aircraft management, and maintenance for private clients and government entities.

In FY2024, Flynas generated $2.1 billion in total revenue. The breakdown by segment was as follows:

LCC: 87%
Hajj & Umrah: 11%
NasJet: 2%

The LCC business remains the core contributor, while the Hajj & Umrah vertical allows Flynas to leverage religious travel peaks. NasJet, while part of the company’s DNA, represents a relatively minor share of revenue and sits somewhat apart from the lean and cost-centred principles of the low-cost model.

Ancillary Revenue Performance

Ancillary revenue in FY2024 is estimated at $283 million, representing 15.6% of LCC revenue. This includes baggage fees, seat selection, in-flight sales, advertising, and cargo. The figure is based on actuals for the first nine months of 2024 as disclosed in the IPO prospectus, extrapolated for the full year.

Benchmark (based on CarTrawler data for 2023):
Air Arabia: 14.2%
Jazeera Airways: 12.8%
IndiGo: 6.8%

XY is ahead of the curve compared to other LCCs in the region.
