Jumbocide to Resurrection - The fall and rise of the A380

Here is a quick snapshot of what is left of the A380 fleet. 251 aircraft were delivered to 15 operators (14 + Hi Fly) during the tenure of the program.

5 carriers - Air France, Malaysia Airlines, China Southern, Hi Fly and Thai have phased out/ retired the aircraft.

Of the remaining ten, 8 have reinstated the 380s and 2 (Lufthansa and Etihad) are in the processing of doing so.

Strong rebound in demand for air travel and delay in Boeing WB aircraft deliveries helped resurrect the aircraft, which most of the operators (except Emirates) wrote off.

Let's hope soaring demand for the front cabin would help the case for the A380s to remain in the skies.

Fun fact: After DXB, the best place to spot a huge fleet of A380s would perhaps be the Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrenees Airport (LDE) in France where many of these super jumbos are parked. Malaysia Airlines A380s were the latest to join its siblings.
