AirAsia’s restructuring enters its final lap, and its Middle East push gains pace
AirAsia’s restructuring is in it's final lap, and its Middle East push is gaining pace.
It was a pleasure reconnecting with Tony Fernandes, a leader with a Midas touch and a bold vision to build the world’s first narrowbody low-cost network carrier, on the sidelines of the Tourise summit in Riyadh.
>RUH-DMK AirAsia X ops commence on December 2 (once restructuring is completed, all seven airlines will sit under a unified aviation platform - the new AirAsia Aviation Group).
>The group is evaluating a Bahrain-based AOC, aiming at a deeper Middle East footprint.
> Earlier this year, multiple reports pointed to a potential US$100M PIF investment in AirAsia (now gone silent).
AirAsia’s airlines are now dispersed across multiple holding structures, limiting their coordination and scale. Consolidation into the AirAsia Aviation Group will bring all seven AOCs under one roof, enabling a unified strategy, better network integration, significant cost efficiencies and stronger fleet flexibility (covering this in detail next week).
