Would you step on a scale before boarding your flight? βοΈπ
While working on a project at flynas, I figured how crucial accurate passenger weight data is for flight safety and operational efficiency.
Airlines typically rely on standard averages.
Interestingly, I found a flight where every passenger is weighed (and it's not voluntary)! This unique practice is on Qantas flights to Lord Howe Island (LDH) on their Dash 8 Q200.
Have you heard of any other flights or airlines that weigh passengers? π
And here's why accurate passenger weight data matters:
>Aircraft Balance: Ensures stable takeoffs, smooth flights, and safe landings.
>Fuel Efficiency: Precise weights mean accurate fuel calculations, saving costs and reducing environmental impact.
>Safety Margins: Crucial for smaller aircraft/ challenging routes with strict operational limits.
>Regulatory Compliance: Aviation regulators set guidelines for airlines to update average passenger weights periodically. E.g. EASA conducts periodic studies to determine standard passenger weights.
