GCC–India bilateral air service agreements (series intro)

“GCC-India Bilateral Air Service Agreements: A Case for Equitable Revision"

This series will follow an approach of piecing together data and relevant insights in a phased manner to build a comprehensive case for revising the current Bilateral Air Service Agreements (BASA) between India and the GCC.

The core focus is on how current entitlements are insufficient from a 3rd/4th freedom perspective, especially considering the sizable Indian diaspora in the region.

In this first edition, we focus on the size and significance of the diaspora, which drives the need for enhanced connectivity.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll delve deeper into related data, such as remittances, contributions to India's GDP, trade flows, current bilateral entitlements, capacity deployed, passenger traffic, and tourism statistics. These factors will collectively illustrate why an equitable revision of BASA is a necessity and a mutually beneficial step for both India and the GCC nations.

Stay tuned as we piece together the story to make the case for enhanced air connectivity for millions of Indians living in the Gulf! (Please share your thoughts)
